Following Jesus PART IV

Dr. Timothy Keller
1 Peter 1: 13-17
13Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15But just as he who callled you is holy in all you do; 16for it is written: "Be holy holy, because I am holy."
17Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
WHAT IS HOLINESS
--Morality (10 Commandments, but much more than that)
--V.16 quotes Leviticus, which speaks of holy things.
--Holiness is something separate or set apart
--Holiness is something belonging to God or meant to worship God.
--Holiness is belonging to God as opposed to living for yourself.
HOW DOES HOLINESS DEVELOP
--Philipians 4:7 - Mind, will, and heart
--Think on these truths as a means towards action.
--V.14 - engages the will
--Do things that bring joy to God; don't qualify and over evaluate.
--Do things out of delight
HOLINESS ENGAGES THE HEART
--1 Peter 18-19 - Affected by the blood of Christ
--John 17: 13-19 - Sanctified for the sake of others.
--As Christ did things for us, so should we.
