Matthew 5:1-10
1Now when he saw the crods, he went up on a mountainside and sad down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying:
3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blesssed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The Sermon on the Mount.
GLORY - HOW WE SHOULD LIVE.
--The salt of the earth; salt was a perservative.
--Help people and communities that are falling apart.
--Religion is also about what you do in solitude--when people aren't watching.
--Worrying and anxiety are about pride.
TERROR
--Realization of our shortcomings.
--The sermon exposes and condemns me.
--We are spiritually bankrupt.
--Even are good deeds are often selfishly motivated.
--Meekness means that I rely on Jesus completly.
--We need to thirst for righteousness (absolute love and integrity)
--We need to ask for salvation, not as a right we deserve, but as a gift.
--Phillipians 3:7-14 - Righteousness through faith
HERO
--We can be comforted because He was stripped of everything, so we don't have to be.
--We are fulfilled because He thirsts.
--He is poor in spirit for us, so we can be poor in spirit in front of God and others.
